Monash on WeChat
Monash has strengthened its position in the ever-evolving Chinese social media space with the launch of the official Monash WeChat account.
Launched on 8 May, the Monash WeChat account marks another significant milestone as the University finds new ways to connect with current and future members of the Monash community via digital media. Monash became the first Australian university to adopt Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo, in 2012.
WeChat is one of the most popular mobile apps in China with approximately 500 million active users each month. The text message-based, fixed menu content and variable posts functionality enables a high level of point-to-point user interaction, promising a reach that is both extensive and intensive.
Following months of development, the Monash WeChat profile includes essential information about the University and will feature weekly posts providing an ongoing source for Monash news and information.
WeChat content is presented in Simplified Chinese, and will enable the University to engage in-language with users located within and outside China.
The account complements our Weibo channel and Chinese-language website, which already function as touch points for those interested in Monash.
These existing channels provide information for future students, parents, government bodies and overseas partners - all keen to learn more about the Monash experience and our vibrant communities.
The project has been developed by the office of Strategic Marketing and Communications and is managed by team member Cara Zhu, who is a native Chinese speaker, with the support of the Social Media team.
