Biology Bridging Course

Do you want to study BIO1011, but didn’t take VCE biology?

Has it been some time since you completed VCE?

Get a head start on your biology studies by completing this bridging course!

This bridging course has been designed to assist students in gaining an understanding of core biological concepts and processes prior to commencing the unit BIO1011 – Blueprints for Life*. It is targeted towards and is most beneficial to students who have not completed senior secondary biology (such as VCE or equivalent) or have been out of high school for more than two years. This course also introduces students to the structure and format of First Year Biology, as well as the online learning systems which are widely used at Monash.

This course runs over three days (Monday to Wednesday), and students have a choice of two delivery modes (selected during registration):

Hybrid
The hybrid mode delivers the course content both on campus and online. On campus activities include face-to-face workshops and a campus tour. This mode is highly recommended as it provides great opportunities to meet, interact, and learn in person with the First Year Biology staff and fellow students.

Online
The online mode delivers the course content fully online, with on campus workshops livestreamed and recorded. This is the perfect choice for students who prefer online only learning or are unable to travel to campus during the dates this course is offered.

The course runs in both hybrid and online modes from Monday 16th February to Wednesday 18th February 2026 inclusive**. Hybrid mode students may attend both on campus and online. Online students may only attend online. Students will select their mode of enrolment during registration.

*Please note that you must be officially enrolled as a student in BIO1011 in order to take this course.
