Apply for Green Steps

Applying for Green Steps

Welcome to the application page for the 2026 Green Steps program.

We are delighted that you’re interested in applying. This program is open to students from all faculties and aims to create future leaders for sustainability. Before you begin your application, please read carefully the steps below.

You must complete Steps 1 & 2 below before completing the application form in Step 3.

Applications close 11.59pm, Sunday 17 May 2026.

Take One Step is a pledge initiative to inspire action and leadership for a better world. It is the first step in applying for Green Steps.

We're asking you to take an action, be it reducing waste, buying ethically, or having a conversation about the world you want to live in. Go vegetarian, take a cold shower, donate your time to a charity or teach someone a new skill. No matter what action you take, every small step makes
a big difference in a world that needs positive change.

Commit to the challenge to make a Sustainable Development Goal-inspired change in your life – an action or pledge to live more sustainably – and make a difference in issues like climate change, consumption and equality.

What you need to do

  • Click on the plus sign in the bottom right corner
  • Post your pledge. Pledges should be no longer than 300 words.
  • Once it's posted, click on the three dots on the top right of your post to copy a direct link to your post.
  • Save that URL somewhere because you will use it in your Green Steps application.

Tips on how to make your pledge stand out

  • Be creative with your Take One Step. We're looking for students (and 'steps') who think outside the box.
  • Take a look at the Sustainable Development Goals and consider how you might align your action with a social, environmental or economic target or indicator.

After you've signed up for the Take One Step challenge, prepare a 60–90 second video presenting three actions you would take to implement your ‘step’ or pledge across Monash University.

What you need to do

Imagine the Vice-Chancellor likes your 'Take One Step' idea. Create a 60-90 second video explaining three actions you would take to implement your 'step' or pledge across the university campus.

Think about how you would go about communicating your idea, scaling it, and influencing other students and staff.

Please ensure your name is in the filename of your video. You will upload the video as part of the application in Step 3.

Tips on how to make your video stand out

  • When filming your video, make sure you reference your step on Take One Step and explain how it might be implemented as a campaign or set of activities across Monash.
  • Check out this guide on how to shoot an effective video.

Please complete the Green Steps application below.

Before you apply make sure you have the following:

  • Take One Step pledge and its URL (see Step 1)
  • 60-90 second video (see Step 2)
  • Resume
  • Your personal and contact details

If you prefer, you can also complete the application in a separate window.
