Why did you decide to study science?
I decided to study science initially, as I wanted to eventually study medicine. However, after a few changes to my degree, I decided to stick with science as a double degree with law, so that I can join these two together and work as an Intellectual Property Lawyer. There are not too many lawyers with a science background, and I want to be able to fill this gap in the market with my passion for both science and law.

What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?
I started my university studies at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. After my first year, I really wanted to gain more from my university experience and decided to take matters into my own hands by moving to Melbourne to be closer to my brother. I looked at Monash initially, as my brother had graduated from a Bachelor of Science at Monash, and after learning about how good the Pharmacology department is (which I decided to major in), I decided to study at Monash.

What's your favourite aspect of studying science?
How hands on the course is. Unlike other courses, or even other universities, studying science at Monash is, for the most part, getting your hands dirty and doing practical learning rather than just learning from a textbook.

What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?
Social wise, hanging out with friends in the Science Student Learning Lounge. In terms of my studies, the subject PHY2011 with Ramesh and the super interesting practical exercises he had in store for us.

What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
I thought it would be a lot harder than it really is. However, being able to do everything that you learn in labs and workshops really makes the information click a lot easier.

If you were to give some advice to someone who's thinking about studying at Monash Science, what would you say?
Don’t overthink it. If you just tackle your work as it comes and don’t fall behind, science can be a super fun course. Also, remember that because science is super broad, you can change what you’re learning whenever you want. Finally, it is super important to do the work during the week! Make sure you keep on top of your work so you can keep your weekends to yourself. It is super important to have your own time disconnected from your studies so you can relax and not get burnt out.

Give us a life hack or piece of advice you live by:
Anki, anki, anki! Rote learning is way more time consuming overall than active recall strategies! Make flashcards, study with friends and don’t study in your room!

Do you have a chosen career in mind? If so, what kind of job are you currently aspiring to?
Intellectual Property Lawyer
