Why did you decide to study science?
I developed a passion for science while completing classes in high school, especially when studying human biology. My career goal is to become a surgeon and therefore science is a pathway to this career.
What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?
I chose to study at Monash due to the high rankings of the science courses, particularly as it is ranked 29th and 33rd in the world for Anatomy and Physiology and Life Sciences and Medicine respectively. I knew I would get a top tier education that would provide me with a variety of opportunities.
What's your favourite aspect of studying science?
My favourite aspect of studying science is the practical classes, specifically anything relating to body systems and dissections, as it plays into my surgical interests and ties in academic learning with visual and physical knowledge.
What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?So far, it has been a practical class in which we were performing very technical dissections and implantation techniques. The head laboratory professor observed my practical for a while and commented on my ‘perfect technique’, which was a very proud moment for me.
What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
The biggest misconception I had about studying science before starting my course would have been assuming the classes that were going to be compulsory and whether or not I would find them interesting. Thankfully, the Monash Bachelor of Science is a very flexible degree and has very minimal compulsory classes overall, instead allowing you to follow your interests and take required classes for you major and minor.
