Why did you decide to study science?
I was always the annoying kid who pestered my parents and teachers with the unending question of “but why?”. I still have an insatiable desire to discover the underlying mechanisms driving the forces on our Earth, which led me to pursue the study of Biological Sciences.

What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?
Monash University was the only university which offers the Bachelor of Science Advanced - Global Challenges (Honours) course, which was the only degree that I wanted to do. This degree sits at a unique intersection between science and society that fascinated me, as I am particularly passionate about how we can use scientific developments to improve the state of our world. This degree has been the best pathway for me to nurture and further develop this passion.

What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?
There are a few things that spring to mind! Some of my favourites are sneaking in a quick churro during the ‘Philosophers' walks’ that we were sent on during first year Global Challenges units, talking to Professor Richard Reina and finding out that he’s worked on projects with David Attenborough and getting free food during various Science Faculty/club events throughout the years.

What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
I had thought that the only career outcome of a Bachelor of Science was research. As there are a disproportionate number of science students compared to researchers, I knew this couldn’t be the case. However, I didn’t know what the alternative career options were.

If you were to give some advice to someone who's thinking about studying at Monash Science, what would you say?
If you’re looking for a university that is simultaneously community-oriented and provides hands-on access to the best technological facilities and a vast, supportive network of incredible individuals - Monash is the place for you.
