Why did you decide to study science?
I have always been a maths nerd. So, it was an obvious choice for me. But as to why I like studying science – it provides you with the skills to be able to answer the most profound questions asked about anything, from the tiniest atom to the largest galaxies. Such an exciting thing.
What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?
Monash in particular because of their world class teachers and facilities. Teaching, facilities, campus, and culture are only part of the list of many things that are only available at monash.
What's your favourite aspect of studying science?
The types of people you call your peers. I feel like I have found my people when I’m amongst my science peers.
What do you plan to do when you graduate?
Hopefully work part time while I complete a Master of Data Science.
What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?
Getting to know the wide array of personalities that make up the math department. Truly a great, smart and funny bunch of lecturers.
What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
Everyone being nerdy and there not being a huge demand for science grads. Both could not be further from the truth. The people as I keep going on and on about are amazing. As far as demand for science grad goes, more and more we are seeing big companies pivot to hiring STEM graduates for their technical skills and ability to solve problems.
If you were to give some advice to someone who's thinking about studying at Monash Science, what would you say?
If you’re someone that has a keen interest in any field of science and want to be surrounded by peers and tutors that support you and taught by world class lecturers at an absolutely beautiful campus then the choice is obvious.
Give us a life hack or piece of advice you live by:
“The next year is going to go by whether you are doing something about your life or not.”
I think is very topical given many people are trapped in their homes because of the pandemic. But I hope people can remember that this year will go by and it may be very easy to sulk, but this time will pass. Hopefully we can all look back and say it was at the very least productive.
