Social Sport Competition Rules
All Social Sport participants and spectators must adhere to the Player Code of Conduct.
Who can participate
Our competitions are open to students, staff and the wider community (16+ years of age). To learn more about the rules for individual sports, visit the side menu on this page.
Uniforms
All team members are required to provide their own uniforms. Teams must wear the same coloured (matching) tops. All players wearing shorts must wear shorts without pockets.
Appropriate exercise attire and non-marking shoes must be worn. No Denim, cord pants, bare feet, thongs, open-toed shoes and jewellery of any kind (other than medical jewellery) is permitted.
You will not be permitted to participate in social sport unless the above regulations are adhered.
Basketball - Teams are required to wear matching singlets. Numbers are to be displayed on the front and back of the singlet. Numbers must not be taped on. T-shirts or compression tops (such as 2XU, LuluLemon etc) that are the same colour as the singlet may be worn underneath however no polo shirts or t-shirts with buttons may be worn.
All players must wear matching shorts with no pockets - tracksuit pants are not allowed. Compression garments may be worn undershorts. Please note there will be no uniform hire available for basketball.
Netball - Each member of the team must be wearing the same colour top and bottoms. A 1-point penalty will apply for each player, not in the same colour. Teams must provide their own bibs, no bib hire is available. A limited quantity of bibs will be available for sale at the start of each semester competition.
Indoor Soccer - Teams are required to wear shirts of the same colour with numbers displayed on the back of the shirt. It is strongly recommended that all players wear shin pads.
Outdoor Soccer - Teams are required to wear shirts of the same colour with numbers displayed on the back of the shirt. It is compulsory for all Outdoor Soccer players to wear shin pads. Shin pads are available for purchase at the Monash Sport service desk at Clayton.
Forfeits
Please notify us as soon as possible if you plan to forfeit so we can notify your opponents. If your team needs to forfeit please send an email to socialsport@monash.edu stating your team name, competition and game time. If you are notifying us of a forfeit on the game day after 5pm, please call the Service desk on 9905 4102 (Clayton) or 9903 2358 (Caulfield). Recurring forfeits may result in removal from competition.
Forfeit fees apply to all social sport competitions as follows:
- More than 24 hours notice: Game Fee
- Less than 24 hours notice: Game Fee + $20
- Less than 2 hours notice or no notice: Game Fee + $40
Scores awarded against a team that forfeits are as follows:
- Indoor Soccer - 5-0
- Netball - 15-0
- Basketball - 30-0
Cancelled games
Where a match is abandoned before halftime, the match will be treated as a draw and game fees will be refunded/credited to future fixtures.

Player eligibility rules for finals
Players must be registered to your team and have played a minimum of three games in the competition (including grading matches) to be eligible for finals. To register additional players once the season has commenced please email socialsport@monash.edu.
Please note no additional players can be registered to a team three weeks before finals begin.
Any team breaking the above rules risks disqualification.
