Blues Awards
'Blues' are the most prestigious of University sporting awards, presented each year to students who demonstrate outstanding sporting performance. A Monash University ‘Blue’ is the highest award available for sporting achievement at Monash University. These ‘Blues’ awards happen not just at Monash but at universities across Australia and globally, so it truly is an internationally-renowned accolade.
Monash’s Blues Awards tradition dates back to 1963, when the Blues Committee was first established with a set of guiding principles and criteria to determine eligibility for each sport. As the tradition has flourished over the years, the criteria have evolved and the Committee, which is supported by the Blues Advisory Group, is now made up of previous Blues awardees across a range of sports, along with two Monash University staff members.
A Monash University Blue may be awarded to an individual student athlete who represented the University and has achieved an outstanding performance (either individually or as part of a university team) during the 12-month period commencing 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026.

2026 nominations and awards process
A nomination for a Blue must be submitted to the Director of Monash Sport using the approved nomination form below. All nominations will be assessed and formally approved at a meeting of the Blues Committee. The Blues Committee shall consider the nomination against 3 key areas:
- The level and standard of competition the individual or team has represented the university in
- Their performance/outcome for that year
- The number of teams the individual was competing against.
The committee may also reference previous award criteria and history.
The Monash University Blues will be awarded at an official ceremony next March following the Blues Committee meeting. For more information, please contact teammonash-enquiries@monash.edu.
