Varsity Sport at Monash enables students with the opportunity to not only represent the University, but also to enhance their university experience. There are countless opportunities for student athletes to develop and learn new skills, forge new connections and create memorable experiences.

Facts and figures

  • 955 Students Athletes

    955 students competed nationally and internationally, with 15 representing Australia at the FISU World University Games in Germany.

  • 89 Teams

    In 2025, Monash University had 89 teams compete across 27 varsity events including the Big Blue Challenge and UniSport Nationals

  • In UniSport Australia

    Monash University placed 5th overall for UniSport Australia events in 2025, winning pennants in Cheer, Judo, Table Tennis, Indigenous Nationals Volleyball, Badminton, Dodgeball and more!

Big Blue Varsity Challenge

The Big Blue encapsulates the sporting rivalry between Victoria’s two largest Universities: Monash and Melbourne. Rivals on and off the sporting field, Monash take on matches played at Monash’s Clayton and Melbourne's Parkville campuses.

UniSport South Intervarsity Events

UniSport South Intervarsity Events are regional competitions between the Universities in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Event - specific information can be found on the UniSport Australia Intervarsity Calendar.

UniSport Nationals

UniSport Nationals are run by UniSport Australia, featuring satellite events and the national championships! UniSport Nationals offers students the opportunity to compete against other Universities across Australia.

Indigenous Nationals

The Indigenous Nationals is a week-long multisport competition for Indigenous student athletes. This year marks the 30th anniversary event. Students will compete in four sports - Touch Football, Basketball, Netball and Volleyball alongside Cultural

FISU World University Games and Championships

The International University Sports Federation, or FISU are responsible for all worldwide sport competitions for student athletes. Monash student athletes have competed in the World University Games, 3x3 Basketball and Cheer and Dance Championships.
