Update 17/6/21: We’re coming back! From Friday 18 June, limited facilities, services and programs across our three sites (Caulfield, Clayton and Peninsula) reopen. Due to density limits, our swim fit classes reopen to members-only. Classes can be booked four days prior to the class time and are to be booked online via the My Monash Sport Portal.
Swim Fit Classes are designed for members and casual users of The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool who wish to add swimming to their health and fitness routine.
Swimming is a great way to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and endurance. It is also a great all over body workout, increasing core strength and muscle tone in a non-impact environment. It is also a proven recovery method.
Classes are conducted by AUSTSWIM qualified instructors, designed to increase fitness levels whilst providing stroke correction and instruction to improve swimming technique.
Whether you are a recreational swimmer, wanting to improve your fitness and swimming ability or have goals of participating in open water or other aquatic events, these classes are for you*.
- The sessions are 1 hour in duration
- These classes are available for all Aquatics and Fitness + Aquatics Members and casual Swim Fit pass holders.
We customise our Swim Fit classes each lesson depending on the capabilities and skill sets of our participants. Classes consist of a warm-up, main set and cool-down. This may include sprints, kick drills, HIIT (high-intensity interval training), individual medley mini-set swimming in at least two different strokes, plus a main set of freestyle.
Sessions require a minimum fitness level of 1200 meters /hour. Participants need to be able to swim at least Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke with competent technique.
If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements, we can complete a swimming assessment. We may recommend enrolment into our Learn to Swim Adult program if there are any technical gaps before joining Swim Fit.
