Purpose / aims: The Australian and New Zealand Thyroid Cancer Registry (ANZTCR) is a pilot clinical quality registry designed to monitor diagnosis, treatment and early post-operative outcomes for people with thyroid cancer at contributing hospitals in Australia and New Zealand. It is expected that this will inform understanding of the natural history of thyroid cancer, research, best practice and lead to improved patient outcomes and quality of care.
Population captured: All patients over 18 years of age with an initial diagnosis of thyroid cancer at a contributing hospital in Australia. The registry involves public and private health service sites throughout Victoria (VIC), New South Wales (NSW), South Australia (SA), Western Australia (WA) and Queensland (QLD). The registry will also expand to include sites in New Zealand (NZ).
Outcomes collected: The ANZTCR collects information relating to diagnosis, treatment, cancer stage, treatment and outcomes, with additional data items collected for risk adjustment. Clinical indicators are in development.
Funding source: The Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES), industry, and a grant from the Alfred Foundation.
