The Golden Square Co-Housing proposal in Bendigo exemplifies my desire to harmonise ways in which architecture and broader systems – both natural and man-made – can occupy shared space and place. Thinking from scales of deep geological time to the scale of creek networks and then relating them to the scale of a window detail makes one more thoughtful towards the impacts of their design intent. The patchwork urbanity of this project is at times informal and unrefined, but that should not demean its value in speculating a new housing typology for Golden Square.
