My work explores ideas of identity, theatricality and transformation. This year has been an in-depth investigation of my idol, pop-artist Katy Perry as a lens to explore these themes. It is this idea of transformation from the everyday that fuels my practice. We become liberated from the realities of everyday life, a heightened version of ourselves. Understanding Perry helps me to better understand myself and the complex web of history, both internal and external, that formulates the connection between fan and star and the important role identity and transformation can play in making us feel more real and more alive.
