We have a National Identity crisis. Architecture globally has been sacrificed with a shift into modernity. Glass skyscrapers around the world have become unrecognizable to it’s region and this is becoming a big problem. National identity in Architecture is important becuase it has the ability to express the distinct traditions, culture, language, politics and quirks of a country. This sculpture for the sky aims to celebrate a broad range of Australian icons, from the flowering gums of the outback to footy in the backyard & cracking open a cold VB, these images of Australiana are embedded within and without the form through a range of literal & extracted symbolism. The heavy use of colour, pattern & texture throughout the design plays a big role in communicating this message, and in tern as you move, work and live within this building it will hopefully ignite that little sense of nostalgic Australia.
