Veiltopia is a floating city for Asylum Seekers to create a new, free life. Fuelled by a Cayman Islands arrangement, Veiltopia uses a system of oil rigs to add and grow the communities. The project interacts with the current conditions and lack of freedom given to people seeking asylum.
The Terminal of Veiltopia requires an architecture that maintains the ideals of Veiltopia This architecture is manifested as antithesis to normative border conditions and detention centres. The terminal challenges common experiences of asylum seekers; linguistic difficulties, temporary architecture and inhumane processing. It combines leisure spaces and free open landscape for exploration whilst maintaining rigid structure to process asylum seekers into the utopia. With this dichotomy set up, formal games arise, creating understandable and explorable architecture.
