Medicine at Monash is a real option

Monash wants to see students with rural and regional backgrounds access the medicine course. You bring a different - and valuable - perspective to the course and the medical profession.

That’s why we have entry schemes like the Dean’s Rural List to boost the chances of students with a background outside a major city being invited to a selection interview.

If you can tick these boxes, an invitation to a selection interview is a real possibility:

  • Your first VTAC preference was one of the three Monash medicine options.
  • You have an ATAR of 90 or more.
  • You passed the UCAT.
  • You applied for a place on the Dean’s Rural List in October/November.

Here's how to boost your chances of a place in medicine when you apply direct from school.

Are you eligible?

Since you were born, you need to have spent at least five consecutive years or ten years all up, living in an area classified as RA2-5.

What does that mean? It’s the Australian Standard Geographic Classification – Remoteness Areas you can check how your previous (or current) address is classified on the Doctor Connect website.
