Year A

Monash Rural Health Churchill delivers Year A of the four-year graduate entry medical program. Co-located within the Gippsland campus of Federation University, Monash Rural Health Churchill provides clinical teaching spaces, a supportive learning environment and close ties with practising clinicians. We also have partnerships with health and community support agencies throughout Gippsland.

Year A introduces basic professional, biomedical, social and behavioural concepts of medicine. Clinical and communication skills are developed through practice in our on-site clinical skills labs and placements within a local hospital in Gippsland.

Meet Robin, Emily, John and Gemma - Year A medical students - and hear about what it's like to study and live in Churchill.

Learning at Clayton

Year A graduate-entry medical students have regular teaching sessions at Monash’s Clayton campus, around five times each semester.

Histology and anatomy classes are delivered in the Monash Biomedical Learning and Teaching Building, which includes a state-of-the-art anatomy education centre.

Year A students attending the Clayton campus also study medical law and ethics.

Community Based Practice Program

The award-winning Community Based Practice (CBP) program connects Year A students directly with local organisations to explore social justice and equity and how these relate to the practice of medicine.

During Semester 1 or 2, you’ll complete a rural practice placement with a local organisation. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you’ll observe and contribute to essential services supporting disadvantaged populations within the community.

Peer mentoring

All Year A students are invited to participate in our Peer Mentoring program. You will be part of a small mentee group mentored by senior Monash medical students. This program provides a supportive environment to help you transition into your medical degree, with practical advice and insight into life at Churchill.
