Communication in Health Professions Education Unit (COHPE)
Clinical and academic communication programs for MNHS students
The Communication in Health Professions Education Unit or COHPE Unit – pronounced ‘cope’ – is an academic department within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. COHPE lecturers have expertise in applied linguistics, health communication, education and teaching English as an additional language.
We provide tailored clinical and academic communication programs for students in pre-registration health professional courses. We help students to achieve their learning goals through workshops and individual consultations in both placement and academic settings.
Our programs focus on clinical and professional communication, learning in placement settings, discipline-specific writing development, and addressing the education needs of students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
COHPE lecturers collaborate with academic and clinical educators in the development of their students’ communication skills. We also provide professional education for placement educators working with students who have English as an additional language (EAL).
