What have you enjoyed most about studying physiotherapy so far?

It has been inspiring to learn from the lecturers and tutors at Monash -- physiotherapists who are passionate about what they do and experts in their fields. The staff are supportive, friendly and studying feels like a collaboration between staff and students, rather than a traditional lecturing style.

Tell us about some of your clinical placements as part of your degree?

I've had the opportunity to complete placements at nearly every major hospital network in Melbourne. One of my highlights was working in the emergency department at Austin Hospital, gaining an insight into how physiotherapists independently manage acute presentations of fractures. It was an amazing opportunity to gain exposure to a unique pathway that many don't experience. The skills I gained throughout this placement have helped me manage, triage and diagnose injuries in my job as a sports trainer for a local football team.

I've also had the opportunity to experience general medicine wards at both The Alfred and Royal Melbourne hospitals. General medicine is challenging. It has given me the skills to be flexible with my assessment and treatment approaches and to be able to quickly change my train of thought.

How will your studies contribute to your career and what career pathway do you hope to pursue?

I'm looking forward to beginning my career in a hospital. My placements have given me the skills, exposure and confidence in my abilities to know that a hospital environment will be the perfect place for my personal and professional development as a new graduate. At this stage I'm not sure which area of physiotherapy I want to pursue, but the opportunities are endless.
