Your HSW responsibilities

We all have a shared responsibility to make Monash a safe and healthy place for work and study. Your specific responsibilities will depend on if you’re management, staff, a student, a contractor or a visitor.

Everyone

All staff members, students, visitors and contractors must:

  • take reasonable care for their own health and safety
  • take reasonable care for the health and safety of others
  • follow all instructions with regard to HSW
  • comply with Monash HSW requirements
  • report hazards and incidents
  • speak up on HSW concerns.

Management

Vice chancellors, senior executives, deans and divisional directors must:

  • be accountable for the HSW outcomes within their areas
  • provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risks to health (to a reasonable degree)
  • monitor the health, including psychological health, of all persons and conditions of the workplace
  • consult on health and safety matters
  • communicate HSW information.

Heads of Units, managers and supervisors must:

  • monitor the health, including psychological health, of all persons and conditions of the workplace
  • consult on health and safety matters
  • communicate HSW information.
