First Aid
Access first aid resources, procedures and training information for staff, students and first aiders at Monash.
First aid kits
All first aid kits must be accessible to staff and students at all times. Don't locate kits behind locked doors or in locked cupboards.
If a kit is in a public area and subject to theft, you can lock it with a break-glass key access system so it remains immediately accessible.
Kit requirements
Each kit must:
- display a white cross on a green background prominently on the outside
- be sturdy, dust-proof and moisture-proof
- be coated inside and out with an impervious finish
- be located at a clearly signposted first aid station
- be large enough to accommodate additional modules in separate compartments where needed.
Kit contents
Kit contents vary, depending on hazards identified in your First Aid Assessment.
Office areas and public buildings: Include contents from the applicable First Aid Kit Contents list, or different items and quantities if your first aid assessment determines they're more appropriate.
High-hazard areas (labs, workshops, plant rooms, catering areas): Contents must comply with the applicable First Aid Kit Contents list.
Off-campus trips: Contents must comply with the applicable First Aid Kit Contents list. Small portable kits may be more appropriate for trips and sporting activities.
