Smoke- and vape-free Monash
Monash supports a healthy smoke- and vape-free environment. Smoking (including vapes and e-cigarettes) isn’t allowed on any Australian campus. This rule covers buildings, grounds, vehicles and applies to all students, staff, contractors and visitors.
If you wish to smoke or vape, you need to go off-campus.
Monash is supporting the health of everyone on campus. There is clear evidence to show that smoke- and vape-free environments increase the rate of quitting and reduce the amount of people taking up smoking.
This is part of a broader commitment by all Victorian universities to provide healthier smoke- and vape-free environments.

Support to quit
Thinking about quitting or just want to understand your options? You’re not alone. There are free, judgment-free resources on and off campus available to help you feel confident and supported every step of the way.
University Health Services
Our GPs and nurses can talk with you about your vaping or nicotine‑product use and provide confidential, non‑judgemental support.
You can book a Quit Vaping & Smoking Help appointment with a health care professional at the UHS clinics on the Clayton, Caulfield or Peninsula campuses to discuss your concerns and explore cessation options.
Quitline
Quitline counsellors offer free, friendly, non-judgemental support to help you learn more about the harms of smoking and vaping and the benefits of quitting. Interpreters are available, and you can request an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander counsellor.
Quitline can support you by phone, online or via text, and all conversations are confidential.
If you see someone smoking or vaping
You’re encouraged to respectfully remind them that Monash is smoke- and vape-free.
Non-compliance
Security staff regularly patrol campuses. If someone is found smoking or vaping, they’ll be asked to stop and reminded of the smoke- and vape-free procedure. Staff, students and contractors who don’t comply may face disciplinary action.
