Radiation sub-committee

As a sub-committee of MUOHSC, the Radiation sub-committee must provide primary governance and expertise on radiation on behalf of Monash research and teaching activities. The Radiation sub-committee need to:

  1. Review hazard and incident reports relating to radiation.
  2. Review results of Monash OHSMS audits relating to radiation, audits/inspections by State and Federal regulators, and recommend areas of focus for future audits.
  3. Discuss matters relating to radiation usage including procedure development, the provision and content of training courses, risk management and compliance with state and federal legislation, and advise the HSW team on the management of these issues.

Operation

As a sub-committee of MUOHSC, the Radiation sub-committee must:

  1. Meet at least twice each year, with at least half the members present for a quorum.
  2. Send the executive summary of meeting discussions and committee minutes to MUOHSC.
  3. Advise MUOHSC on replacement of committee members, as needed.

Radiation Safety Officer for the School of Chemistry, with experience in X-ray analysis equipment, wet laboratory processes involving radioactive materials, and safe handling and disposal of low level radioactive waste.

Former Deputy Radiation Safety Officer in the School of Biological Sciences with experience in complex wet laboratory techniques involving unsealed radiation sources, overseeing daily lab operations, conducting radiation monitoring, and ensuring safe handling and disposal of radioactive waste.
