Becoming a First Aider
You can become a Monash First Aider if you're a staff member or student with an interest in first aid. You need to volunteer for the role (by first discussing it with your supervisor for approval), and you can step down from the role at any time.
Qualifications you need
You're qualified to provide first aid at Monash only when you:
- complete HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (previously HLTAID003 First Aid Level 2) and renew it every three years
- complete HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (previously HLTAID001 CPR Refresher) at least once a year, between renewals for Provide First Aid.
You must meet these requirements to be eligible.
If you have first aid qualifications from outside Monash, we can accept them after we verify your certificate and you complete any additional training needed. Simply email a copy of your certificate to talent.development@monash.edu and it will be added to your training record in myDevelopment.
Immunisation
To be a Monash First Aider, immunity to hepatitis B is recommended. You'll manage injuries involving blood loss, and standard precautions are essential because you can't know if someone is carrying the hepatitis B virus.
