Protect yourself and our community this flu season

You can spread influenza without knowing you’re sick – you may be contagious from one day before symptoms appear and for up to five days after. Getting vaccinated is one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk of serious illness and protect those around you.

The flu vaccine is updated each year to match the strains most likely to circulate. This year’s vaccine is based on proven technology that’s been refined over decades.

All staff and research students on Australian campuses can access a free flu vaccination as part of our program. This includes fixed‑term, part‑time, casual and contractor staff. When it’s time, we’ll email staff and research students with details and a booking link.

If you’re aged 65 or over, you can receive the government‑funded vaccine through our program or arrange it with your GP or local pharmacy.

Family members and people who aren’t Monash staff or students aren’t eligible for the Monash program, but can book through their GP or a participating pharmacy.

Other ways to get vaccinated

If you prefer not to use the Monash program or miss out on an appointment, you can:

If you’re unwell or need to cancel

Don’t attend your appointment if you’re feeling unwell. To cancel or reschedule:

  • Open your booking confirmation email from Health Watch Australia (or search your email for support@fluger.com.au)
  • Follow the cancellation or rebooking instructions.

Cancelling early helps free up your spot for someone else.

Your vaccination record

Your flu vaccination will be recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

  • If you have Medicare, you can view your record via your Medicare online account through myGov within 24–48 hours.
  • If you don’t have Medicare, you’ll still receive your vaccination free of charge. You’ll need to provide your Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) when booking.

You can also access your record through My Health Record.

People aged 65 and over

If you’re 65 or older, you’ll receive the age‑specific vaccine recommended by the Australian Government.

  • Book through the online link in your email.
  • Bring your Medicare card to your appointment.

The nurse will confirm your age and provide the appropriate vaccine on the day.
