Climate change and Australia's healthcare systems report
We were commissioned by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians to review health system responses to climate change and deliver a systematic literature review, a policy and institutional analysis, case studies and an economic analysis, in collaboration with the Climate and Health Alliance.
The report is designed to provide Australia’s peak healthcare organisations with evidence-based recommendations for Australian policymakers, health systems, health professionals and the communities they serve.
Australian Commission on Quality and Safety in Healthcare Review of Sustainable Healthcare
MSDI and the Climate and Health Alliance were commissioned by the Australian Commission on Quality and Safety in Healthcare to conduct a review of existing policies and literature, to better understand the potential safety and quality implications and solutions facing health service organisations related to climate change and the associated extreme weather events and changing patterns of disease.
This has been used to support the development of a Sustainable Healthcare module as part of National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standards.
Working with government
MSDI worked with the Victorian Department of Health to support the development of their strategic forward agenda on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and environmental sustainability. We co-designed and implemented workshops from across the department to understand current practice. We also interviewed Departmental stakeholders, including five hospital CEOs. We collectively identified three functional areas for action, with a number of specific actions under each which are now being considered and implemented.
