There are 700,000 deaths annually from drug-resistant infections. Entire populations in developing countries are at risk of losing their lives to neglected tropical diseases. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic highlights that we can no longer afford to be complacent about the dire consequences of infectious disease.

In Australia, we face a likelihood of further disease emergence – the result of animal farming, cross-border trade and travel; and diverse public health system pressures  in some of our nearest neighbouring countries.

There’s no quick fix. We need sustainable, global solutions and evidence-informed policy and governance, that create change for all, not just the lucky few.
