The School of Rural Health is committed to improved health outcomes in rural communities, and a sustainable rural health workforce. With eight clinical teaching sites, our footprint stretches from Mildura in the north-west to Bairnsdale in the south-east.

We're part of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Research

Advancing rural health research

Our research vision is to better health outcomes for rural, regional and Indigenous communities.

A recent study led by Dr Jess Paynter, has revealed that recovery chances for colorectal cancer patients in rural and metro hospital ICUs show no significant differences in mortality rates. Analysing over 23,000 patients across a decade, this research challenges the notion that metropolitan hospitals deliver better health outcomes.
