Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging

“I chose to study the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging at Monash due to the university’s strong reputation of producing leaders, the facilities available and the way the course was structured. The fact that students head out on placement from first semester of first year, is something that really appealed to me.

Monash radiography student Bonnie on placement in Warrington

During the second year of my radiography degree, I spent four weeks on placement at Warrington Hospital in the UK.  I spent the majority of time in general x-ray but was also able to experience different modalities such as A&E (accident and emergency), CT, MRI, ultrasound and interventional radiology. It was amazing to see firsthand how the profession differs in the United Kingdom, but also to realise there are such broad opportunities for students like myself, when we graduate. It was wonderful to compare our courses with other students and to see how broad and exciting a job in radiography can be!

This experience has honestly improved not only my clinical skills, but has helped me to become a more flexible and adaptable radiographer. It has widened my thinking towards the processes we use, and has greatly improved my communication skills, not only with patients, but also my fellow radiography and hospital staff.

In the future I am hoping to work in a large public hospital, and to be able to work in a dynamic and exciting department that not only continues to test my skills, but helps me grow as a radiographer.”
