Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

“I chose the Bachelor of Psychology at Monash because it ticked every box that an aspiring psychology student would want from an undergraduate course. It has a direct and scientifically-thorough approach, which I knew would be the ideal platform for later graduate studies or careers in the field.

Monash has a diverse range of cutting-edge research laboratories. Many of these labs provide opportunities for undergraduate students to volunteer as research interns and contribute to the innovative work being done. I’m currently an intern on Project REST, a research project investigating the treatment of insomnia, supervised by Professor Sean Drummond and Dr Alix Mellor. I’ve had the opportunity to interact with study participants and conduct interviews. This experience has been rich in learning, and the research team have been very supportive of my growth and enjoyment throughout. Working alongside some of the university’s brightest minds provided me with the platform to develop my research, professional and communication skills.

While clinical experience is difficult to come by as an undergraduate, being in this course provides avenues to seek out external volunteer opportunities in the mental health and disability sector. We also have seminars to help us navigate potential future study and career pathways in psychology. Monash will really provide me with the best possible foundation as I set out on my goal to make a difference in the mental health sector, hopefully as a clinical psychologist.”
