Master of Nursing Practice
Why did you choose to study the Master of Nursing Practice?
Once my children were at school I didn’t want to return to my previous career in media. I started caring for people with spinal and brain injuries, and after working so closely with an amazing team of clinical nurses and allied health care I decided that once my children were all at school I would become a registered nurse.
How will your nursing studies contribute to your career? Where are you hoping to apply your skills in the future?
I was delighted to discover that Monash offered a postgrad course that would enable me to attain my career goals with like-minded students. The MNP course is ideal as it offers fast track learning, with continuous clinical placement experience. Once I qualify I hope to train as a plastic surgery nurse, specialising in skin and wound care.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your degree?
Because the MNP course gets its students on the ward within a month of starting, you know very quickly if you have made the right career choice for yourself. I knew as soon as I started I was where I wanted to be. There is nothing nicer than caring for a patient and knowing that my care is of value to them and their families.
What have you enjoyed most in your time at Monash so far?
The educators are so well-informed and do their best to make the classes an enjoyable experience. My classmates are from all walks of life, I love the cultural diversity of the course, and it’s so great to share this experience with them as we all learn to be the best nurses that we can be.
