MICCN researcher receives Vice-Chancellor Award for Excellence in Research
Dr Janette Tong, a researcher with the Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN), has been awarded the 2016 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher (ECR) (STEM category).
This award recognises research excellence by ECRs who are within 10 years of their research careers.
Dr Tong’s research is focused on advancing knowledge around the role of genes in mental illness. Her latest work centres on using pluripotent technology to bridge the gap between animal and human clinical models of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Since completing her PhD - ‘An evolutionary perspective of the trafficking of pathogenic proteins to mitochondria’ - in 2013, Dr Tong has worked at the interface of molecular neuroscience and psychiatric genetics, and published in leading journals such as Molecular Psychiatry, Journal of Neuroscience and the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry. Additionally, her career achievements extend to securing over $350,000 in competitive research funding as a Chief Investigator.
