Defibrillator Coordinators

Role and responsibilities

Defibrillator Coordinators are delegated responsibility by their Head of Unit to ensure defibrillators in buildings under their management control are inspected and maintained according to the manufacturer's guidelines. They also keep records of maintenance and inspection.

Appointment

Defibrillator Coordinators are appointed by Heads of Units, who ensure the person appointed to the role is provided with sufficient resources and time for their duties.

Key areas of focus

Who is responsible for the testing and inspection of defibrillators is determined in consultation with the Defibrillator Coordinator, First Aid Coordinator, Safety Officer, Health and Safety Representative (where elected) and local HSW committee.

Defibrillator Coordinators:

  • notify HSW of the locations of – and the individuals in charge of – defibrillators
  • communicate completion of monthly checks to the Safety Officer for recording (cyclic tasks)

Defibrillator Coordinators perform daily defibrillator checks and document monthly defibrillator checks.
