First Aiders

Role and responsibilities

First Aiders provide first aid as needed, always working within their level of competence, and record all treatment (however minor) on the First Aid Injury Report. They are delegated responsibility by their Head of Unit to be readily available when required to provide First Aid assistance.

First Aiders have a responsibility to ensure they keep up to date with annual CPR refresher training and level two first aid training every three years.

Appointment

First Aiders are appointed by Heads of Units who ensure the person appointed to the role:

  • has their delegated authority
  • is provided with time to complete all required training, and
  • is provided with sufficient resources and time for their appointed role.
