Floor Wardens
Role and responsibilities
Floor Wardens form part of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO). They initiate emergency responses within their designated area under the direction of the Building Warden.
Appointment
Floor Wardens are appointed by Heads of Units who ensure the person appointed to the role:
- has their delegated authority
- is provided with time to complete all required training, and
- is provided with sufficient resources and time for their appointed role.
Key areas of focus
Floor wardens participate as a member of a buildings Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) or Emergency Response Team (ERT). They also ensure occupants are familiar with emergency procedures and consult with management if there are individuals with disabilities present within their area.
Floor Wardens:
- direct occupants during drills and genuine emergencies
- provide feedback to the Building Warden or Emergency Services where relevant
- participate in post-drill debrief sessions.
Floor Wardens monitor their floor or area to make sure emergency exits remain clear and emergency equipment is kept in good working order.
