Public Lecture: Why does the brain age? What causes dementia? What can we do about it?
Central Clinical School in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is delighted to invite you to a public lecture on dementia.
Professor Velandai Srikanth is the Director of the National Centre for Healthy Ageing, Director of Research, Peninsula Health and Professor of Medicine at Monash University’s Central Clinical School. Professor Srikanth will explore why the brain ages and what causes dementia. Importantly, what can we do about it?
Professor Srikanth’s program of research spans several aspects of healthy ageing. His primary interest is in the study of risk factors and mechanisms underlying dementia, particularly with respect to vascular and metabolic health. He has led the field internationally in studying the impact of brain ageing on walking and the risk of falls, and the link between brain ageing, gait and the risk of dementia. He is now working to understand the impact of health at earlier stages of life on the future risk of dementia, and how this risk may be different between men and women.
Professor Terence O'Brien, Head of Central Clinical School, is MC for the event.

Note: The event is hybrid, so you can choose to attend either in person or via Zoom. For those attending in person, the numbers are capped, and the event will be catered with light refreshments.
