Education excellence recognised with Higher Education Academy Fellowship
Monash Rural Health lecturer and research fellow, Dr Eleanor Mitchell, has been awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Based at Monash Rural Health Bairnsdale, Dr Mitchell has been an integral part of the School’s teaching team for over a decade and has provided supervision to more than a dozen honours, masters and doctoral students. In 2015, she was the recipient of a Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education (Quality of Teaching), which recognised her achievements in online teaching.
While the application process through the Monash Education Academy was rigorous and took many months (and many drafts), Dr Mitchell felt well-supported throughout the process by her mentor, Associate Professor Peter Barton, and by Professor Shane Bullock and Dr Tammy Smith.
“The process of applying was very helpful in reflecting on my teaching philosophy and thinking about things like what and why I teach the way I do!” Dr Mitchell reflected.
“Being an FHEA is an achievement and a recognition of my commitment to tertiary teaching and always striving to improve the student learning experience.”
Dr Tammy Smith, Education Lead at Monash Rural Health, noted that Fellowship (FHEA) is recognised globally and highlights Dr Mitchell’s consistent track record in excellent, innovative and relevant learning and teaching.
"Congratulations to Eleanor, on becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. It's a significant achievement and a great means of highlighting contribution to student learning and commitment to high-quality teaching."
