Global recognition for Professor Arvind Sehgal’s cardiovascular leadership

Prof Arvind Sehgal, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology
Professor Arvind Sehgal, Head of Neonatal Cardiovascular Research at Monash Newborn, Monash Children’s Hospital and Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics at Monash University, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
This prestigious international honour is rarely awarded to non-cardiologists, particularly those based outside the United States. It recognises Professor Sehgal’s outstanding contribution to cardiovascular care, research and education, an achievement that also reflects the depth of expertise at Monash Children’s Hospital and Monash University.
Professor Sehgal has led the Cardiovascular Research Program at Monash Children’s Hospital since 2007 while maintaining a full-time clinical role as a neonatologist. He completed his PhD in 2016 and has continued to advance the field through his research on cardiovascular adaptations in vulnerable newborns, including infants with severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia and fetal growth restriction. His work has been recognised with the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network Research Awards in 2019 and 2024. He also recently completed a Higher Doctorate of Medical and Health Sciences (DMedHS) with his thesis, ‘Circulatory compromise and hypoxaemia in the newborn.’
Beyond his research, Professor Sehgal is a member of the Haemodynamics Club, based in the US and has chaired invited haemodynamic sessions at the prestigious Pediatric Academic Societies Annual Meeting in the US, further testament to his international standing.
This well-deserved recognition by the American College of Cardiology highlights both Professor Sehgal’s leadership and Monash’s growing impact in neonatal cardiovascular research globally.
