Dr Tim McArdle, an esteemed Monash University alumnus and a dedicated GP obstetrician, was a cornerstone of healthcare in Warragul and its surrounding communities. In honour of his enduring legacy, the Tim McArdle Memorial Grant was established to support aspiring healthcare professionals.
Now in its 21st year, this bursary provides crucial financial assistance to first-year Monash students who are passionate about rural health and committed to returning to their local communities upon completing their education.
At this year’s presentation, the grant was awarded to first-year nursing student Ella Hales from Drouin. Expressing her gratitude, Ella shared, “This is a wonderful opportunity that will significantly ease the financial pressures of balancing study and work. The grant will go a long way in helping me manage these commitments.”
Associate Professor Catherine Haigh, Director of Monash Rural Health Gippsland, reflected on the ongoing impact of the grant, stating, “With the rising cost of living, we recognise the challenges our students face in balancing their studies and personal commitments. The legacy of this grant has provided vital support to many students like Ella, making their educational journey a little easier.”
