Esteemed Mildura General Practitioner joins Monash North West Victoria Regional Training Hub

Dr Mehdi Sanatipour OAM has joined the Monash North West Victoria Regional Training Hub as the new General Practice (GP) Lead.

Dr Mehdi Sanatipour, new GP Lead with North West Victoria Regional Training HubBased in Mildura, Dr Mehdi will lead a range of activities designed to strengthen the future of general practice in the Loddon Mallee, in addition to teaching clinical skills to Monash medical students and leading his own general practice, Sunraysia Medical Centre.

Dr Mehdi brings extensive clinical experience and a deep commitment to rural medicine.

Dr Mehdi qualified as an anatomical pathologist in 2004 before moving into general practice, completing his GP qualification in 2011, the same year he was named GP Registrar of the Year. He has been practising in Mildura ever since. His accolades include the Australian Medical Association Excellence in Healthcare Award (2014), Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP), Victorian GP of the Year, and the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to medicine. His professional interests span preventative medicine, chronic disease management, mental health, and medical education, and he is an experienced GP supervisor for junior doctors in the Mildura region.

As GP Lead, Dr Mehdi will help develop accredited GP training positions across north west Victoria, including Advanced Specialist Training and extended skills posts, and support supervisor and training-site accreditation aligned with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and Royal Australian College of General Practice standards. He will supervise and mentor medical students, interns, Hospital Medical Officers, International Medical Graduates and GP registrars, and contribute to teaching activities that strengthen the North West Victoria Regional Training Hub's end-to-end rural generalism program. He will also work with hospital, community and government partners to build the networks that drive workforce recruitment and retention across the Loddon Mallee region.

Dr Mehdi is excited to take on this new role with the North West Victoria Regional Training Hub.
