MNHS community recognised in The King's Birthday 2026 Honours List

Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences researchers and alumni are among over 900 people recognised in The King’s Birthday 2026 Honours List, released today by the Governor-General. The Australian Honours and Awards system recognises and celebrates the outstanding service and contributions of Australians from across the country and from all walks of life.

Congratulations to the following recipients:

Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)

The late Professor Katrina Allen AO -  For distinguished service to medical research as a paediatric allergist and gastroenterologist, and to the people and Parliament of Australia.

Professor Katrina ‘Katie’ Allen AO was a Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)(Hons) graduate, a 2024 Distinguished Alumna and 2025 Monash University Fellow. She was also on the leadership advisory board of the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute. Professor Allen was an exceptional alumna whose scholarship, clinical care and public service changed lives across Australia and around the world.

Professor Michael Berk AO - For distinguished service to epidemiology, to preventative medicine, to mental health, and to tertiary education.

Professor Berk is an Honorary Professorial Research Fellow in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

Emeritus Professor Grahame Coleman AM - For significant service to animal welfare science, and to the discipline of human psychology.

Professor Coleman has been an Emeritus Professor since 2014. He was the Head, School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine, 2005-2008 and Head, Department of Psychology, 2004. He was also Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Science, 1998, Professor of Psychology, 1997-2013 and Academic Director, Department of Psychology, 1997.

Professor Mariapia Degli-Esposti AM - For significant service to immunology, to microbiology, and to clinical research and education.

Professor Degli-Esposti is the Head, Experimental and Viral Immunology Laboratory, Infection and Immunity Program in the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute.

Professor John Newton AM - For significant service to mental health care, and to the psychiatry profession.

Professor Newton is an adjunct professor in the School of Translational Medicine.

Professor Anna Rosamilia AM - For significant service to urogynaecology through education, mentoring and training.

Professor Rosamilia is an adjunct clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.

Professor Andrew Stripp AM - For significant service to medical administration through executive and governance roles.

Professor Stripp is an adjunct clinical professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Alumni recipients

Dr Tanja Bohl AM - For significant service to dermatology as a clinician, and to women’s health.

Dr Dov Degen OAM - For service to medicine, and to mental health support.
