At the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (MNHS), we are deeply committed to empowering our graduate research students to thrive—both during their candidature and beyond. Through a suite of targeted programs, workshops and resources, we support students in building meaningful, impactful careers across a diverse range of sectors.
MNHS Monash Career Café
Graduate researchers from MNHS pursue careers across academia, healthcare, industry, government, law, education, and beyond. The MNHS Monash Career Café connects students with PhD-qualified professionals who have successfully navigated diverse career paths. Through interactive presentations and networking events, students gain firsthand insights and practical advice to broaden their career horizons and make informed decisions about their future.
MNHS Graduate Research Mentoring Program
The MNHS Graduate Research Mentoring Program is a vital way to support our students’ academic, professional, and personal development. Mentoring helps students navigate the complexities of research training, build confidence, and broaden their career perspectives. By connecting students with experienced Early Career Researcher mentors, this program fosters a sense of community, reduces isolation, and promotes wellbeing. Students benefit from independent academic guidance and support from their mentors, develop strategies to overcome challenges and achieve goals, gain an increased sense of self-awareness of strengths and potential, and gain insights into career advancement, work/life balance, time management, and collaboration. This program is designed to enrich the doctoral experience and set students up for long-term success.
MNHS Using LinkedIn for Career Development
LinkedIn is a powerful tool for graduate research students to support their professional development and broaden their career horizons. It allows them to showcase their research, skills, and achievements, connect with professionals in academia and industry, and stay informed about emerging trends and opportunities. In collaboration with Monash Career Connect, MNHS offers the Using LinkedIn for Career Development workshop to help students build a compelling online presence. Participants learn how to strategically expand their networks, highlight their research and achievements, and position themselves for impactful roles—within academia and beyond.
