Phantom Freight
Marketing dictionary
Phantom Freight
a freight charge imposed upon a customer in excess of the true freight cost incurred by the supplier. For example, in the base-point pricing approach, a local customer will be charged a phantom freight when the freight charge is calculated from an arbitrarily-chosen, possibly distant, central point.
