Congratulations to Dr Sih Min Tan on ANZSN Basic Science Award win

Congratulations to Dr Sih Min Tan, who has won this year's Australia and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) Basic Science Award,
The ANZSN Basic Science Award recognises the outstanding contribution to research by ANZSN Members in basic science.
Dr Tan's abstract is titled 'Role of complement C5a Receptor 1 in modulating cellular senescence in diabetic kidney disease'.She said, "In my research, I have shown that a part of our immune system, the complement system, is activated in diabetes and this pathway is not targeted by conventional therapy for diabetic kidney disease.
"Results from my preclinical studies show that inhibition of one of the complement endproducts, C5a is renoprotective by stopping the premature aging of the kidney in diabetic kidney disease. These findings further validate C5a as a novel therapeutic target for diabetic kidney disease and will help to advance complement C5a inhibitors into the clinics for diabetic kidney disease."
