Congratulations to the MSHC on winning the 2023 Melbourne Award - LGBTIQA+ Category, for "Improving people's sexual health with professional, non-judgemental care".
Now in its 21st year, the Melbourne Awards are the City of Melbourne’s highest accolade, celebrating the inspirational Melburnians who dedicate their time and energy to making this city a world leader.
MSHC is a leader in managing and preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Engaging with the government, industry and community, the MSHC responds to emerging issues that affect the LGBTIQA+ community to find solutions to improve people’s sexual health, well-being and quality of life.
"HIV, sexually transmitted infections and sexual health are highly stigmatised, particularly in some communities. We try to make our care as non-judgmental and as targeted as possible, so that we’re not imposing beliefs, stigmas and discriminations that don't need to be there. Ultimately, we want everyone to feel safe and welcome and respected here.
We are very honoured and proud to have received this Award. We would like to thank all MSHC staff for providing professional and non-judgemental HIV and sexual health care to our communities. It’s important to acknowledge that it’s through collaboration with our partner organisations and the support and engagement of the community that we have achieved this. This Award validates our hard work and also gives us motivation to continue striving for optimal well-being for our LGBTIQA+ community", said Professor Eric Chow, Head of the Health Data Management and Biostatistics Unit and Co-Head of the Clinical Evaluation Unit at MSHC.
