Kellion award for Professor Karin Jandeleit-Dahm

Prof Karin Jandeleit-Dahm
Congratulations to Professor Karin Jandeleit-Dahm on receiving the Kellion Award from the Australian Diabetes Society.
The Kellion Award, which includes a $10,000 prize money, is the most prestigious award given by the Australian Diabetes Society for recognition of outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge in diabetes research, clinical care and service in Australia.
Prof Jandeleit-Dahm's research focuses on the identification of novel pathophysiological pathways and targets related to increased oxidative stress in diabetes associated complications. Specifically, her research has identified novel sources of oxidative stress, an enzyme family called "NOX". Based on the important and extensive preclinical data produced in the laboratory, Prof Jandeleit-Dahm and her team have translated one of the novel treatments to a phase II clinical trial, funded by JDRF and ARC.
"We are currently developing novel inhibitors with the potential to better treat and prevent diabetes related kidney disease and cardiovascular complications. To receive this award is a great honour for my team and the Department of Diabetes at Monash University, which now has 3 Kellion awardees including Prof Mark Cooper and Prof Paul Zimmet", said Prof Jandeleit-Dahm.
