International Rome Foundation Research Award for Monash IBS research

Dr Jessica Biesiekierski, 2024 International Rome Foundation Research Award winner
Congratulations to Dr Jessica Biesiekierski on receiving the 2024 International Rome Foundation Research Award for her original global research in disorders of gut-brain interaction.
The Rome Foundation is the leading body in the classification and treatment of disorders of gut-brain interactions. The award which includes a prize money of USD$40,000 was announced in Washington DC at the Digestive Diseases Week, the world's largest gastroenterology conference.
Dr Biesiekierski's research aims to identify the psychobiological mechanisms driving symptom changes in common treatments for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and focusses on two contrasting yet evidence-based treatment approaches for reducing IBS symptoms. The work will enhance clinician awareness and patient access to dietary and behavioural approaches, improving individual treatment strategies for IBS and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes.
"I am honoured to receive this prestigious grant as this is the only global award of its kind in this field, underscoring the unique and impactful nature of my team's work.", said Dr Biesiekierski, a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food.
