Monash Psychology - Sixty Years of Changemakers
Over 60 years ago, Monash University embarked on a journey with a bold vision - to redefine the landscape of psychological science and transform the way we perceive the human mind.
Since then, our impact has been profound. We've reinvented the way we approach research, education, and collaboration in the field of Psychology. We've explored the depths of human cognition, emotion, and behaviour, pushing the boundaries of what was once thought possible.
We've broken barriers, unravelling the complexities of addiction and mental health, advancing discoveries in ageing and neurodegeneration, and led innovations in brain injury rehabilitation, brain mapping, modelling, to neurodevelopment and the intricacies of sleep and circadian rhythms.
Through innovative teaching and education, we have equipped thousands of graduates with core skills in psychological science - they are now making a huge impact in wide ranging areas including professional psychology, research, government, industry and community organisations. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide an unparalleled environment for learning and discovery - both on campus and online. Our expert educators are leaders in the field.
We are host to significant research initiatives, including the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, created following the largest single gift to preventive brain and mental health research in the country; the Monash Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre, which is maximising outcomes for individuals with brain injuries; the Industrial Transformation Training Centre (ITTC) for Optimal Ageing and our newest addition, the Centre for Research Excellence in Bipolar Disorder (CORE-BD)
We have a greater understanding of mental health and its precursors and triggers, as well as the human brain. But this knowledge is only valuable if we can translate it into effective interventions that reach all corners of the community. And we need to listen and learn from the community so that we embed lived experience in all our activities - in education and research.
It is time to embrace change and go beyond what we already know, leveraging the digital world to deliver services and interventions locally and globally. This is the challenge of our age.
Whether you're a future student, researcher, or collaborator, Monash Psychological Sciences invites you to join us on this journey of discovery and impact. Together, let's transform the field of psychology.
