Monash researcher honoured with prestigious AMA Women's Health Award for extensive contributions to stillbirth prevention

School of Clinical sciences at Monash Health is thrilled to congratulate Dr Keeth Mayakaduwage, resident medical officer at Monash Health and adjunct lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, on receiving the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Women's Health Award. This prestigious recognition was presented at the AMA's national conference, celebrating Dr Mayakaduwage's outstanding contributions to improving stillbirth prevention and antenatal care.
Dr Mayakaduwage's research, conducted in collaboration with Safer Care Victoria and the Stillbirth Centre of Research Excellence, has significantly advanced Australia's understanding of stillbirth complexities and the importance of evidence-based practices. His leadership in evaluating the Safer Baby Bundle implementation in Victoria has been instrumental in enhancing antenatal care across the state.
AMA President Professor Steve Robson praised Dr Mayakaduwage's dedication, stating, "His contributions to women's health and stillbirth prevention cannot be understated. Dr Mayakaduwage has shown incredible dedication to this extremely important cause, not only through his research but also through his various roles on international and national women's health committees."
Upon receiving the award, Dr Mayakaduwage expressed his gratitude and commitment to furthering women's health research. He emphasised the ongoing need for research, advocacy, and policy development, noting that six babies are stillborn each day in Australia, affecting over 2,000 families annually.
